My Story

Based in Newtownabbey, Crafting Northern Ireland was established and founded by Kelli Johnston, who has worked within the community, business and statutory sectors for over 25 years and has over 15 years' experience of facilitating learning and development. With a lifelong passion for creativity through arts and crafts, Kelli tells us:
"Growing up I was always working on a creative project, whether it was drawing and colouring as a child, embroidery and cross stitch as a teen, or macramé, latch hook, glass painting, and a multitude of other endeavours. I've always loved working with my hands and, later in life while working full time in different job roles, I've always continued my creative learning journey with evening classes, learning skills in mosaics, furniture upcycling and restoration, upholstery, stained glass art, and lots more - all of which I loved! I completed a Masters degree and a qualification in facilitating learning and development, and have always been an advocate for the creative industries. I've worked primarily in adult education over the past 20 years, and am delighted to be the founder of Crafting NI."
"Having hobbies and taking part in arts and crafts is so important, not only for children, but also essential as we age and get older. Crafting is great for our health and wellbeing, from the social interaction, to keeping our mind active by learning new skills, to the way it enables us to forget about any worries while focusing on using our hands and being creative. Crafting encourages creative thinking and problem solving, and is simply fun! I hope you'll find some inspiration from Crafting NI, and do check our our social media channels @letscraftni for inspiration and ideas."
